Houston announced its 2017 football schedule on February 9, 2017. The 2017 schedule originally consisted of six home games and six road games in the regular season, but the road game versus UTSA was canceled. The Cougars hosted AAC foes East Carolina, Memphis, Navy, and SMU, and traveled to South Florida, Temple, Tulane, and Tulsa.
And again the Midshipmen's triple-option will be a challenge to defend. The Cougars open conference play on the road against the Owls. They avoid any possible cold weather late in the season but can still expect a tough, grinding affair. Potential cold weather games in Wyoming and Nevada are early.

And the Cougars will be seeking revenge after the Ponies essentially delivered the final blow to any major bowl hopes last season. Twelve games is smarter than adding a second FCS school just for the sake of playing the full compliment of games. It’s a nice schedule after what could be the worst traveling season in football history.
Hawai'i concludes its 12-game regular season by renewing its rivalry with Brigham Young, Nov. 25 in Honolulu. I know they are hard to arrange home game-only games but we have too many road games. We need 7 or 8 home games for the financial benefit … that’s the purpose of the extra game allowed for UH. I’m old enough for the years of only two road games in a season … we were independent back then. That Utah State game looks potentially dangerous sandwiched between two rivalry games. Additionally, anyone who places a $50 deposit before April 17 will receive a voucher good for one ticket to any remaining UH ticketed home game . By the final month, the Bulls could be undefeated and in the discussion for a spot in a New Year's Six Bowl.

The Cougars played their home games at TDECU Stadium in Houston, Texas, and competed in the West Division of the American Athletic Conference. They were led by first-year head coach Major Applewhite. They finished the season 7–5, 5–3 in AAC play to finish in second place in the West Division. They were invited to the Hawaii Bowl where they lost to Fresno State.
East Carolina
Houston was originally scheduled to travel to UTSA of CUSA but that game was canceled. Check out the slideshow to see a ranking of each game of the Cougars' upcoming season. Hard to get a good read on the Golden Hurricane, the team is picked to finish anywhere from first to fourth in the AAC West.
Future seasons we will also be having 7-8 home games as well. The Cougars hosted two of their three non-conference opponents, Rice from Conference USA and Texas Tech from the Big 12 Conference. They traveled to Arizona from the Pac-12 Conference.
UH opens Mountain West play at Wyoming on Sept. 23, and also have road games at Nevada (Oct. 7), at UNLV (Nov. 4) and at Utah State (Nov. 18). Making their way to Aloha Stadium are Colorado State (Sept. 30), San Jose State (Oct. 14), San Diego State (Oct. 28) and Fresno State (Nov. 11). A total of four teams on the 2017 schedule competed in bowl games a year ago – BYU , Colorado State , San Diego State , and Wyoming . After another bye week, UH hosts league champion San Diego State (Oct. 28).
FYI, besides Panda, Non-Stop Travel has just announced two tour groups for the UMass game (3-nt Boston and 4-nt Las Vegas). There are byes before Wyoming and San Diego State.
Could also be a preview of the AAC championship game. The UTSA social media account has been using the #TakedownHTown hashtag leading up to the game and more than a few Cougars have taken notice. They don't need any more motivation after an embarrassing 20-point loss to the Roadrunners in the debut of TDECU Stadium in 2014.
2 bye weeks helps the team more in recovery than an extra game. Also don’t have to deal with 6-7 record type seasons. The Rainbow Warriors open the season with three nonconference games, starting with Massachusetts on Aug. 26 in Amherst, Mass. Their home opener is Sept. 2 against Western Carolina, and the following week they travel to UCLA. This is a game the Cougars would prefer not to have a short week to prepare for, especially coming off what should be a tough road game against Tulsa.

Following a bye week, UH begins league play on the road at Wyoming (Sept. 23), marking its third road game in the first month of the season. The following week, UH travels to Las Vegas to meet UNLV (Nov. 4). Fresno State comes to Aloha Stadium, Nov. 11 and the Warriors close out the league schedule at Utah State, Nov. 18.
Nonetheless, it should again be a tough matchup, especially after last year's game coming down to a goal line stop by the Cougars. Instead of working the count, Hawaii batters hit the first good pitch they saw. Going directly to Laramie has the potential of derailing the season, a compounding of injuries.
